We’ve got fun filled days out and breaks for families, friends or romantic getaways for any love birds out there! Think of us as your travel guides of the North East…
High Force
If you really want to get in touch with nature, then make sure you take a trip to High Force. Widely known as one of the most spectacular waterfalls in England it certainly didn’t disappoint and the drive to get there through the stunning countryside of Upper Teesdale was a real treat. From the visitor car park to High Force is roughly a 15-minute walk, following a fairly flat and very wide path; making it perfectly suitable for push chairs. The path is guided by railings which will prevent any accidental falls. With woods, streams and dams there is no reason that you or your family wouldn’t love a day outside exploring a beautiful and picturesque location.
Beamish
Beamish or also known as ‘The Living History of the North’ take a journey back in time to the 1800s and 1900s. The word ‘museum’ will usually conjure images of dark and dusty rooms, not when you visit Beamish. A highly interactive, authentic, educational and fun day out for ‘kids’ of ALL ages! At Beamish you can wander around the authentic pit village, cottages and shops many of which were taken down and literally rebuilt brick by brick from their original locations throughout the North East. Staff dressed head to toe in authentic costumes really gives you a feel for that era and will not hesitate to give you a true depiction of history. At Beamish you can learn about life down the pit and even stroke a pit pony, with demonstrations of the pit lift shown throughout the day, Beamish is one to add up there for your family day out!
Kynren
Between the months of June to September there is an Epic Tale on an Epic Scale. Kynren is an epic tale of England the action-packed live blockbuster performed by a cast and crew of 1,000. Visitors will be blown away by our 90-minute world class show, providing an immersive and entertaining time travel adventure through 2,000 years of history, myth and legend. Kynren, a world class show brought to life with magnificent sets, combat, stunts, horsemanship, stunning pyrotechnics and amazing special effects set to a thrilling original soundtrack. Kynren is a captivating experience for all the family, it really has to be seen to be believed! A huge open air amphitheatre seats 8,000 guests per night, sat directly in front of the lake, you are struck by the majestic backdrop of Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland on a performance area of over 7.5 acres, our visitors are taken through an entertaining performance depicting 29 scenes, covering 2,000 years of history, myth and legend, through the eyes of a 10-year-old boy
Sunderland Air Show
Pack a picnic, head to the beach and lie back for dazzling aerial acrobatics, classic aircraft, live music, fireworks and traditional seaside fun. Sunderland International Airshow is Europe's largest free airshow and it is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018! It showcases everything from death-defying wing walkers and classic fighter battle re-enactments to synchronised aerobatic stunts by the Red Arrows, a team of Britain’s top military pilots.
Hartlepool Marina
Hartlepool is full of award-winning attractions, such as the Hartlepool Historic Quay, the HMS Trincomalee and the museum of Hartlepool. There are also lots of other places for you to visit such as St Hilda’s Church and Cameron’s Brewery. The main centrepiece of Hartlepool is of course its Marina and its award-winning Historic Quay; a faithful depiction of an 18th century seaport portraying the exciting experience of what life was like at the time of Nelson and Trafalgar. Located in church square you’ll find Hartlepool Art Gallery and Tourist Information Centre, just a few minutes’ walk from Hartlepool Railway Station and close to Hartlepool Town Centre.
Raby Castle
There really is no better way to enjoy your family staycation in Durham, than heading to the Dales and discovering one of the most impressive and best-preserved medieval Castles in the North East of England. You will love the freedom of letting your children explore, following the trail with activity booklets, maps and pens in hand. There is also a café located within the old stables which hosts a quirky vibe, something which is definitely worth a visit after your energetic tour around the Castle and its grounds. Home to an impressive collection of 18th and 19th century coaches and carriages.
