An Array of Beaches
There aren’t many people who know this, but the City of Sunderland is right by the sea, with an award-winning coastline for you to sunbathe on during the North East’s small window of Summer. Throughout the other seasons the stunning coastline is perfect for grabbing a pot of tea and a slice of cake from the quaint cafes and taking picturesque walks while getting some sea air in your lungs or tackling the wave with manners of aquatic activities.
Fantastic Food
Ten year ago, or so you would struggle to find food other than pizza, pasta, Gregs or a standard kebab in Sunderland. These days when wondering the streets of this up and coming cosmopolitan city, due to the influx of students and others from foreign lands, there’s cuisine from right around the world.

Even by just taking a 30-minute drive you will find yourself in either the rolling countryside, big city bustle, retail heaven or an coastline. There is even a skiing albeit on a dry ski slope. For those who find themselves somewhat of a hiker, you can climb to the top of Penshaw Hill and stand in the middle of the 170-year-old monument inspired by the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens; why not stare out at the beautiful countryside?
The Red Arrows
Every July you can visit one of Europe’s largest aviation festivals; ‘The Sunderland Air Show’. The air show fills the skies of Wearside with all manner of magnificent flying machines. Besides the Red Arrows there is Battle of Britain planes as well as a whole host of stunt pilots and airborne daredevils. Plus, as most of it goes on above the sea, the chances of you dying from a propeller falling from the sky are satisfyingly low.
